So Jacob suggested them and I took a listen. I was actually really impressed. I listened to "Filth", their first full length album, "Children of God" and "The Great Annihilator".
"Filth" was by far my favorite of the three.
I love the vocals more than anything but the slowed down metal sound was interesting...I definitely see the impact they had on modern music. Most of the songs were like long, stretched out breakdowns so to speak. I've never come across such a nihilistic band, it's almost as if they didn't care to make the music they produced hahah.
Everything is about greed, death, anger, despair, and hatred.
Still, very well done.

You made the Xiu Xiu post somewhere on here, didn't you? Seems like you have a very good taste in what you choose to listen to. Swans is wonderful, and coincidentally enough, Jamie Stewart cites them as being a big influence on his songwriting.
Just thought I'd throw that random yet interesting fact out there.
Nifty.

I was the one that posted that but I didn't know they were an influence to him, though it would make sense.

i think humanity would be much better off if children were forced to have daily SWANS listening sessions in school from the ages of 5-18.
also, xiu xiu is amazing. their singer is one of the most ridiculously melodramatic performers i've ever seen.

I don't know so much about five, lol there might be mass suicides in the grade school or something but at least no one would be dissappointed with life anymore hahah. Xiu Xiu is wonderful, easily one of my favorites. I wish I would have seen the show in Newport a few months back.

I do too, but that comment about forcing your kids to listen to them is little more than internet buffoonery. I mean seriously...kids' leeway into music should be something light like Beastie Boys or Green Day. If I talked to a little kid and asked him what got him into Punk Rock/hardcore/screamo whatever and he answered " Swans" I'd be scared.

I think my first real musical interest was Smashing Pumpkins...that was when I was six or seven, them Green Jelly and NIN were pretty much exclusively in my tape deck.

dude i remember green jelly! their video for "3 little pigs" was totally absurd. and maynard from tool sang on that song. and yes, of course i was being absolutely 100% serious about making 5-year-olds listen to the swans. personally, i think the world would be a MUCH better place if more kids looked just like that picture -- laughter is the best medicine, after all. and yes, of course i was being absolutely 100% serious about making 5-year-olds listen to the swans. I'm shocked anyone knows what I'm talking about. I don't think many people (at least my age) remembers them. I had all the albums hahaha.
