Another Anticon band, the very label that spawned the great Sage Francis. (Please don't talk shit on the Sage...)
AntICON isn't really a rap label, but more of an experimental dare I say "folk" label. I ordered this CD just because I heard some of his MP3s.
Passage has some hip hop snesibilities, but isn't something that you could crank your bass up for.
His nasally white-boy rhymes are layered over pianos, acoustic guitar and electro-synth (think cheap yamaha) ditties with voice samples of Dr. Laura and Dr. Phil sprinkled thoughout. He's got some killer rhymes, but I hate to think of him as a rapper...plus this album seems to have a "theme". Many of the songs are about modern counseling methods, psycology and medicine. (expect a lot of rhyming medical/anatomical terminoliogies).
This album isn't going to change the world by any means, but it's a fun alternative to much of the experimental music I see. It's catchy, insightful and somehow (despite the dark lyrics) uplifting. Be aware though, there are some instrumental tracks....not a bad thing to most people...but I figured I'd warn you.
If you're not in the market to purchase a new CD, I'd suggest at least going to the AntICON website and DLing the 2 MP3s they have available (Creature in the Classroom and The Unstrung Harp). I subsisted off of only these for about a month.
